Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta on Thursday said that the police have arrested six accused involved in a gang rape case and  the probe would be completed within 60-days under the supervision of  Inspector General of Police (Ropar Range) Ms V Neerja. Addressing a press conference at PAU, Mr Gupta said that on February 9 night, the victim along with her male friend were moving in a car and when they reached near Isewal village, three bike-borne youths forcibly stopped them and committed the crime. He said that then trio accused called from victim’s male friend phone to his another friend and demanded Rs one lakh ransom to leave them following which the latter contacted ASI Ms Vidya Ratan in Dakha Police Station but failed to contact the victims and accused later and then, the accused left the victim and her friend abandoned at the same place where the crime has occurred. Mr Gupta said that on February 10 evening, the victim and her male friend filed the complaint with the police and an FIR was registered under sections 376-D, 384,342 IPC. The victim was taken for the medical examination and six teams were formed by DIG Ludhiana range Mr Randhir Singh Khatra which arrested six accused. Mr Gupta told that the accused have been identified as Sadiq Ali of Hakimpur in SBS Nagar, Jagroop Singh of Ranga Patii in Ludhiana (arrested on Feb 12), Surmu of Khanpur, Ajay of Tibba, Saif Ali of Tibba in Ludhiana and one juvenile from Basti Changran in Kathua. 

The Punjab Police Chief informed that IGP Ropar Range Ms V Neerja would supervise the incident along with DSP Ms Harkanwal Kaur and would complete the investigation within 60-days in this case. He also revealed that Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh has already instructed to complete the probe as soon as possible to ensure harsh punishment to all of the accused. He said that Chief Minister is also going to meet Chief Justice of India very soon to request him to ensure the trial of rape cases in fast track courts and asserted the police would ensure that all six accused get punishment within four months.  He said that the department has already suspended a cop for not taking prompt action on receiving the complaint and a probe is already on in this matter. He assured to revive 181-helpline, deployment of PCR vans, bikes and services of rural rapid response teams would be ensured on each corner of the city and rural areas besides installment of CCTV would be also done. The DGP reiterated the firm commitment of the Punjab Police to maintain the hard-earned peace of state at every cost.On the occasion, DIG Ludhiana range Mr Randhir Singh Khatra, Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill, SSP Ludhiana rural Mr Varinder Singh Brar, SSP Khanna Mr Dharuv Dahiya and others were present.
