“The Rural Development and Panchayat Department has chalked out a special training programme for the newly elected Panches and Sarpanches in order to enable them to carry out their duties related to the panchayats in a smooth manner.”Disclosing details about the programme here today, the Rural Development and Panchayat Minister, Punjab, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that the programme has been devised in such a manner that the panches as well as the sarpanches would get to know about all the aspects of functioning of panchayats such as Maintaining the records, Providing maximum benefit of the Government schemes to people and the planned development of the villages. The minister further said that he has directed the departmental officials to ensure cent percent attendance of the panches and sarpanches in the training programme besides directing the officers to also ensure that the newly elected women take part in the training themselves.Mr. Bajwa also divulged that the training programme would be held for 2 days in each block with participation of every panch and sarpanch of the block concerned. 

He also said that the training would commence from 11th February in respect of Moga, Ferozepur and Rupnagar Districts whereas the training of the rest 19 Districts would start from 15th February.Elaborating about the training programme, Mr. Bajwa said that the trainers are being trained first who would then train the panches and sarpanches. He also said that during the course of training the panchayats would be apprised about their powers and the responsibilities apart from Panchayati Raj Act, Village Common Land Act, maintenance of the shamlat lands, Composition of the Gram Sabha, Its chorum, Meetings, Resolutions, Estimates, Purchase of the material, Use of Funds, Maintaining of Financial Accounts, Record, Registers, Role of the Panchayat Secretaries and Right to Information Act-2005.The training would also cover the information with regard to all the schemes being run by the Union and the State Governments besides the aspect as to how to derive benefit and in what measure from these schemes. The panchayats would also be sensitized about how to contribute their bit in the improvement of educational scenario.
