District Development Commissioner (DDC), Ramban, Showkat Aijaz Bhat today launched week-long Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao awareness campaign besides flagging off a rally organized by Department of ICDS to spread awareness among the people about the need and significance of educating the girl child and highlighting adverse impact of decline in sex ratio.ADC, , Dr. Basahrat Hussain, Chief Medical officer, Ramban, Dr. Safi-ud-Din Khan, Dy. CMO, Dr. Iqbal Bhat, Principals, staff members of different schools, Anganwadi workers and officials of various departments were present at the rally.Large number of girl students from various educational institutions of the district participated in the rally and raised slogans for Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao themes. The rally started from DC Office Complex Ramban and after visiting various prominent locations of Ramban town culminated at ICDS office Ramban.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the need for greater awareness among the masses about various schemes envisaging welfare and development like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Laadli Beti etc.He congratulated Asiya Kauser, class 12th student of Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban for securing first position in Arts steam. He also encouraged the girls to register remarkable achievements in all aspects of their career for making parents as well as society proud.He appreciated the department of ICDS, Social welfare, ICPS, Education, Health and other departments for conducting such awareness programmes and rallies on girl child oriented schemes which will be of immense use in sensitizing the community about saving, educating and ensuring dignity to the girl child.ADC who is also the Programme Officer, ICDS informed about the various programmes to be organised in different parts of district during week long awareness campaign.
