The players from Punjab won 3 medals today in the Khelo India Youth Games which concluded at Pune. In  this 12 day sporting extravaganza, Punjab won a total of 72 medals with the inclusion of 23 Gold, 19 Silver and 30 Bronze. Today, Punjab players bagged a Gold and Bronze Medal each in Archery besides a Bronze in girls Hockey.The Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi while congratulating the contingent from the state expressed strong hope that next time Punjab players would win even more medals. He also said that those players who couldn't finish on the podium this time would surely make it the next time with extra hard work. The minister further said that the players should start preparing in the right earnest for the National Games and next year's Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan. The Additional Chief Secretary (Sports) Mr. Sanjay Kumar also extended congratulations to the medal winners and credited coaching staff as well as parents of the players. The Chef De Mission of the Punjab contingent and Director, Sports, Mrs. Amrit Kaur Gill divulging details about the medal winners from Punjab on the last day said that in the U-21 Archery event, Sangampreet Singh won Gold while in U-17 Archery event Amanpreet Kaur won Bronze. Sangampreet Singh defeated Rahul of Haryana in the final of Compound event with score of 145-139. In the U-21 Hockey match for Bronze Medal, Punjab girls team defeated Odisha by 2-1.
