Two militants killed in South Kashmir gunfight

Two militants have been killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces in Katapora area of Yaripora in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday evening.A joint team of army's 35RR and SOG Kulgam launched cordon and search operation (CASO) in Katpora after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight.In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and their identities and affiliations are being ascertained, police official told Valley Media Service.Sources said that two other militants reportedly have managed to flee from the gunfight spot.Forces now installed flood lights to trace the presence of militants at the gunfight spot and the operation is still on.Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been suspended in the district for “precautionary measures”.An official said that the service was suspended to “prevent law and order situation” following an encounter in the district.Clashes erupted near the encounter site between the government forces and youth on Saturday.Reports said that hundreds of youth assembled near the encounter site in Katapora village shouting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans, triggering massive clashes.Government forces retaliated the protestors by tear gas smoke shells to disperse the protesters.(VMS)
