Hundreds of daily wagers and need-based workers of Power Development Department (PDD) on Tuesday said “despite risking our lives”, the government continues to show cold shoulder to their demands including the timely payment of wages."Whenever there is any exigency, we are deployed on the forefront and we risk our lives to restore the power supply but we are not being paid wages on time, as a result, our families suffer a great deal," a delegation of daily wagers and need based-workers told GNS.They said the government often appreciates the efforts of higher officials but forgets the poor workers who work on the ground."It is ironical that nobody remembers us despite risking our lives to restore the essential service while higher officials of government appreciate the top brass of PDD. There is not a single word of appreciation for us," they said, adding, "It is highly regrettable that our wages are not even paid on time leaving us and our families in distress.”They said it becomes difficult for them to arrange even bus fare to reach their respective destinations."We have not been paid salary since last more than five months, as a result, we are unable to sustain our families. We find it very difficult to manage daily affairs," they said. They have appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik and his concerned advisor to intervene in the "humanitarian issue" and ensure that their pending wages are paid without any further daily."We have great hopes on Governor Sahib as he has proven to be a magnanimous person in addressing the employees’ issues, and given that ours is a humanitarian issue, we are hopeful that our basic issues shall be resolved without any delay," they said.
