Only the healthy animals will be considered eligible to take part in the National Livestock Championships-2019. The Animal Husbandry Department, Punjab has mandated to get vaccination certificates of milch cattle and also issued the instructions to send blood samples of horses to the Laboratory of North India at Jalandhar.Animal Husbandry, Fishery and Dairy Development Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that 11th National Livestock Championship is being organized from February 1 to 4, 2019 at Chappar Chiri of District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar in which various breeds of animal will participate from northern India. He said that it is important to ensure the health security of all animals participating in this championship.Balbir Singh Sidhu said that instructions have been issued to the Deputy Directors of all the districts of the state in this regard. He said that only those animals will eligible to participate in this championship, who was vaccinated by the Animal Husbandry Department to protect from Foot & Mouth disease and Haemorrhagic septicaemia.
He said that veterinary officer from the concerned area will be issued a Health Certificate after the vaccination of animal.He told that in this National Livestock Championship, different breeds of horses will also participate and it has been found that in horses, the glanders disease spreads quickly from one horse to another horse through microbes. He said that keeping in view the safety of the horses, instructions have already been issued to the districts that all participants must be sent blood samples of their horses through the Deputy Director / Veterinary Officer of their respective areas in the Laboratory of North India at Jalandhar till January 11, 2019. He said that after receiving the negative report of horse, the participant will allow to take part in the championship.
