Parliamentarians from Punjab, led by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Mr. Sunil Jakhar, demonstrated outside the Parliament House on Thursday for pressing the immediate release of Rs 1287 crore for SC students' scholarship.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sunil Jakhar, accompanied by Member of Parliament Santokh Chaudhary, Ravneet Singh Bittu and Gurjit Singh Aujla, said that the Congress-led government of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh strengthened the Post Matric Scholarship scheme for SC/ST students in 2010 to boost the education for distressed section of country. He said that congress believes that the uplifting of the social-economic status of weaker sections of society is possible only with education. “But the earlier, the Akali-BJP government in Punjab created hindrance in delivery of Post Matric Scholarship stipend to SC students and now the Modi government is not releasing Rs 1287 Crores to state to implement its hidden anti-SC/ST agenda”, he added. Mr. Jakhar said that not only the peasantry of the nation but the SC/STs communities is also being suppressed all over the country by the Modi government. He said that Modi Government earlier tried to weaken the SC/ST act and now same government is creating obstacles in the education of students of weaker section thereby exposing its anti-poor stance. Mr. Jakhar said that the BJP-led NDA government has been deliberately doing every thing to harass the weaker sections of society since 2014. He said that anger against the Modi Government in all sections of society including farmers, SCs increasing across the country and the results of the recent elections in the five states are also evidence of this. He said that the people of the country are eagerly waiting for the next general elections so that the Modi government can be rooted out from the nation.
