National Scheduled Castes Alliance today demanded that the State Government should call the meeting of State Vigilance and Monitoring committee, so as to tackle with the increasing rise in atrocities and injustice against the Scheduled Castes community.Continuing the symbolic hunger strike into the 7th day, families of the victims are determined to sit for as long as it takes to get their demands accepted. National Scheduled Castes Alliance, an organization which advocates for the welfare of the SC community is guiding the families in their struggle for justice.Paramjit Singh Kainth, President of NSCA targeted the State Government led by Capt. Amrinder Singh for being responsible in the rise of atrocities against the SC community. He said "Due to the politicization of bureaucracy and rise of Gunda raj, Scheduled Castes community is being targeted and put under torture at the village and grassroots level. Landlords are mercilessly torturing these poor families as a result of which families from 2 villages Shergarh and Atalan have been living lives as Refugees and conducting this hunger strike under these harsh winter conditions, just to make their voices heard."He warned the State Government to not take their stand lightly and vowed to continue their struggle to get the demands of these families fulfilled. He said "These political parties only care for the community during the months preceding an Election. No opposition party or any leader from the state government has approached the families to lend a helping hand. Only the rich and powerful get help in this cruel rule of Congress govt. in Punjab. Despite being 35% of the population, Scheduled castes are still considered third grade citizens and means to win elections by these parties."
