While presiding over the annual court meeting of Himachal Pradesh University at Shimla today, Governor Acharya Devvrat said that the teaching fraternity should refrain from student politics as it affects the educational environment in the campus. Emphasizing the importance of teachers in higher educational institutions, he said that they play significant role in channelizing the energy of the students in positive direction which ultimately helps in building a strong nation.Acharya Devvrat said that universities were institutions of intellectuals and they should give an impression of wisdom and learning. He said any educational institution could attain new heights provided one and all associated with it show strong will power, work honestly and share responsibility and accountability.“This University has given qualified and renowned person at all levels to the state and the country which we are proud of, but education does not only mean bookish knowledge. If the teacher is serious and conscious, the youth can be prepared for nation building and this is why their responsibility is more than others”, said Acharya Devvrat. It was our responsibility to give right direction to the youth and their constructive suggestions should be taken as well to improve the overall atmosphere of the educational institutions, he said.He added that the research work of scholars should not be confined to the shelves in the university but come to the field for the benefit of the society.

He said that teachers at the university level had depth knowledge of their respective fields and urged especially the faculty associated with tourism, economic, management and biological sciences to give important inputs and suggestions in the interest of the state so that their participation in development could be ensured and suggestions could be incorporated in the state policy making. The Governor said political activities at university level were uncalled for.
