Association of Indian Universities' six-day North Zone Inter-university Badminton (Women) Tournament-2018 concluded at Lovely Professional University, today, where University of Delhi lifted winning trophy as Zonal Champion. From the other league matches played on the last day of the tournament, Panjab University (Chandigarh) declared runner up and Punjabi University (Patiala) second runner up. Now, along with 4th position holder Maharshi Dayanand University (Rohtak) all the first three position holders will further compete in National Inter University Badminton (W) Tournament- 2018 to be held at Vellore (Tamil Nadu), from 10th to 13th December, 2018.For the two competitions held today for first four positions, Punjabi University Patiala defeated MDU Rohtak by 2-1 to grab third position, leaving MDU at 4th position. In the first match for single players, Seema Panchal of MDU beat ANAM of PU Patiala in two sets by 21-10 and 21-12; in Doubles, Anam & Anmol of PU Patiala beat Seema and Ayushi of MDU by 21-14 and 21-18; whereas, in third set of singles again, Anmol of PU Patiala beat Ayushi Singh by 21-13 and 21-19. Similarly, in the last match of the tournament played for first two positions, University of Delhi defeated Panjab University Chandigarh.  In the match for singles, Namita of DU beat Deepasha of PU Chd by 27-17, 18-21 & 21-16; whereas, in doubles  Bhavya and Anamika of DU beat Deepasha and Aakaankshi of PU Chd by 21-14 and 21-15. The match scores are self-relevant about the toughness in fight during all of these matches. 

While handing over the prestigious trophies to the respective position holders, LPU Director General Er HR Singla invoked all players to continue improving upon their present performances. He also inspired the best student-players of the zone to further eye on Olympic Games and other world level competitions by practicing hard.  While sharing their experiences at LPU campus, Dr Shubhra Kathuria (University of Delhi), Dr Neeru Malik (PU Chandigarh), Badminton Coach Dr Jagdish appreciated LPU’s organizing potentiality, and admired LPU department of sports for smooth conduction of the tournament. All other players, coaches and managers, too, shared words of appreciation for present host-ship.Highlighting, LPU was designated as the organizing body of the championship by Association of Indian Universities (New Delhi), where 34 teams from different states of the zone participated. Internationally reputed Director Sports GNDU Amritsar, Dr Sukhdev Singh supervised the event as AIU’s observer, along with badminton coaches Suresh Kr (Patiala), Rakesh Kr (Gurdaspur), Harkamal Deep (Fazilka), Karan (Jalandhar).
