Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharmsot today said that the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would launch a major plantation drive on November 23 as part of the year long celebrations to mark the 550th parkash purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.The Minister, who was here to review the arrangements for the mega event, said that the drive by state government would be a humble and befitting tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, by the state government. He said that all of us were very fortunate to have got this lifetime opportunity of being part of the celebrations to mark 550th parkash purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. Mr. Dharmsot said that under this extensive plantation drive 550 saplings would be planted in every village of the state by September 30, 2019.The Minister said that during the plantation drive trees of species like Amaltas, Amla, Arjun, Bahera, Sirs, Bohar, Imli, Jamun, Kachnaar, Neem, Moulsary, Mulbery, Putranjeeva, Shisham, Sukhchain and others would be planted in the villages. Likewise, he said that on the occasion the kids would be encouraged to adopt one tree each and ensure to their proper growth and upkeep. Mr. Dharmsot said that the main thrust of drive was to make younger generations an active partner of this campaign for planting more and more number of trees.Underlining the need to plant more trees to make Punjab clean, green and pollution free, the Minister said that it was the need of hour to check the environmental pollution in the state. He asked the people to come forward for making this plantation drive a grand success as this gigantic task could not be accomplished without their active support and participation. Mr. Dharmsot also asked the Panchayats, youth clubs and schools besides social, religious and non government organizations to contribute towards this noble initiative.Earlier, MLA Sultanpur Lodhi Mr. Navtej Singh Cheema, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Mohammed Tayyab and Mr. Satinder Singh apprised the Minister about the arrangements being made by the district administration for the event.On the occasion Divisional Forest Officer Mr. Vikram Singh Kundra, Forest Range Officer Mr. Davinder Singh and others were also present.
