Sand extractors stage protest in Srinagar

Asks Govt not to bar them from sand extraction in Nallah Sindh

Scores of sand extractors from Nunar Ganderbal area of Central Kashmir Monday staged a protest accusing government of snatching their livelihood by handover the sand extraction contract to few blue-eyed persons.The protesting sand extractors assembled here in Press Enclave and appealed Governor Administration to allow them to extract sand from Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal district.They alleged that the high-handed attitude of  some officials has hit hard those people who are entitled to extract sand. They also expressed their concern over the problems faced by the thousands of people who relied on the sand extraction industry to earn a livelihood.  “We used to extract sand without any hindrance but now the authorities handed over the sand extraction contract to a chosen few. The authorities have snatched our livelihood,” said the protesters to news agency CNS. While seeking immediate remedial measures from the administration, the protesters warned a stir in case they are not allowed to extract sand from Nallah Sindh. (CNS)
