It has been very evident that among all the branches in engineering, students with computer science or Information Technology are mostly preferred by the top MNCs. On the other hand students from mechanical, civil engineering, electrical and electronic background have less scope of getting placed. This is due to the lack of core industries with huge manufacturing, distribution and factory units which require students with certain specialization and are fit for their organization. Most of the times, a student who have pursued engineering would like to work which is related to his/her profile only and may get it too. But there comes time when the graph starts declining due to the lack of managerial skills. To fill this gap between technical knowledge and managerial skills, nothing could be considered better than doing a management course which would add spark to your technical knowledge by upgrading your personality as required in the corporate world. Management exams like CAT comes at your rescue and clearing these exams would offer you admission into top business schools.

Here we would be discussing major reasons for which engineers opt for MBA. The reasons are as follows:

Myth That MBA Graduates are Paid More Than Engineers

In our Indian society, we follow the myth blindly and it has always been in air that MBA graduates get paid much well than engineering graduates. Moreover, syllabus of CAT exam has aptitude and reasoning in it for which student from engineering background do not require much preparation and can still do pretty well in the exam.

To Have Better Understanding of Corporate World

If a person is well aware of the process of creating a product but is not good enough to sell it or doesn’t know the efficient ways to increase its trade, is there any worth of that product then? To overcome such kind of situations students opt for MBA so that they may excel in the corporate world too and may grow their career at high pace.

Develop Soft Skills

Engineering gives you direction towards the technical field and feeds your mind with technical concepts of your respective branch, but it would not let you learn the importance of soft skills which also held equal importance for any organization. In MBA, students gets to know the value of team work, cooperating in a tem, importance of speech and many other things such as communication skills, resource management etc. which are very crucial in private sector.

Poor Education Quality (in Engineering Colleges)

Pathetic quality of education in most of the engineering colleges is the main reason for which students lose interest in their subjects amidst of the graduation and then start figuring out what they want to do after engineering. Had engineering been more interesting for the students, they may not have opted for the MBA.

Considers CAT as an Easy Option

After engineering, aptitude and reasoning are the topics which a student can handle with ease whereas student from other background while appearing for CAT would have tough time while appearing for MBA. Thus, engineers have that perception in mind that CAT and other management entrance exams such as XAT, SNAP etc. would be much easier for them while compared with students from commerce or other streams.

Career Growth at High Pace

This one is the most significant reason behind engineering students going for MBA. It can be clearly differentiated from the salary that an engineering graduate with MBA gets noticeably higher salary than the one with just engineering degree. And obviously students would seek for anything which lets them make more money.

Gives an Insight of Business

MBA lets you know the strategies which would be used to implement while solving problems in business environment. Makes the student ready for the upcoming pressure and the ways to deal with it in a commendable way. Furthermore, it is often seen that students pursuing engineering do not remain interested for doing M.Tech.

To Improvise Personality

Students who opt for MBA are more likely to enhance their personality traits which are important factor in corporate world. The management courses mainly focuses on the activities such as presentations, speeches, group discussions and much more which sharpen the personality of a student.
