Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday made it clear that his government had no role in the summoning of the Badals and actor Akshay Kumar by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2015 sacrilege and police firing incidents. The SIT was an independent entity and was functioning without any government interference, he said in response to a question while addressing the media after inaugurating the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital here. His government’s job was to form the SIT as per the unanimous decision of the Vidhan Sabha, which it had done, and now the onus of investigation was on the SIT, said the Chief Minister. In response to another question, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that every single grain of the farmers is lifted from the Mandis. He had already written to Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution to resolve the moisture content issue, he said, adding that the problem had arisen due to the untimely and excessive rainfall just ahead of the harvest. In his communication to the Union Minister, he had sought driage @ 2% instead of 1% of Minimum Support Price (MSP) so as to ensure hassle-free and uninterrupted procurement for the remaining Kharif Season, the Chief Minister added. On the issue of shortage of doctors in Government Hospitals, the Chief Minister said that 588 doctors would be posted shortly in all hospitals. He said he was in favour of posting of doctors close to their place of residence to ensure more effective functioning. To a question on the ongoing teachers’ protest, the Chief Minister said that the government had given a fair offer to teachers to either join regular services as probationers or continue on contract basis.  It was up to them now to accept or reject the offer, he added.Regarding the poll promise of Smart Phones for eligible youth, the Chief Minister said the process of tendering had already been initiated and the distribution of phones would begin soon.Asked on the announcement of candidates for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Captain Amarinder said that would be done after the polls are announced.
