A signature campaign was launched in the Zila Parishad Complex today to pledge Green Diwali today morning wherein the staff of Additional Deputy Commissioner (development) and Civil Surgeon office participated.Speaking during the occasion ADC (d) Gurmeet Sidhu said that Diwali is a festival of joy and faith which should not be celebrated by bursting fire crackers as emits lot of air and noise pollution."Instead we all should plant a sapling during this pious occasion and contribute towards the cleaning of atmosphere," Sidhu said.Civil Surgeon Lal Chand Thakral too urged the people not to burst crackers it results in the contribution of unbearable pollution also increases the level of noise pollution. "Air and noise pollution plays a major role in creating numerous health related issues and we all must avoid the bursting of crackers this diwali," Thakral said. He urged all the staff members of his office to pledge for a green diwali.Among others who were also present during the occasion included District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Asha Kiran, BDPO Sukhminder Singh Sidhu, SDO (Tubewell Corporation) Mahinder Singh, District Mass Media Officer Pawan Kumar and Sukhminder Singh.
