The Sikh Sangat today expressed its anguish along with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC ) against the sacrilege committed by the Congress government by denigrating Guru Sahiban in history books and initiated a 48 hour dharna here to force the government to punish the guilty and apologise for becoming a ‘bhagidaar’ in this ‘bajjar paap’.The Sikh Sangat first collected at Sri Akal Takth where it performed ‘ardas’ and prayed for speedy justice to November 1984 genocide victim families besides punishment to those who indulged in beadbi of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji as well as those who distorted Sikh history.After the ‘ardas’ SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal party leaders, workers and ordinary members of the Sangat went to the Town Hall where they staged a dharna to demand an immediate apology from the Congress government for denigrating Guru Sahiban.They also demanded registration of cases and arrest of all those who prepared and distributed the distorted History books of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).Serving a two day ultimatum to the Congress government to take action against the guilty, the SAD president said in case the government did not take requisite action the party would launch a public movement to make the deaf government heed the voice of the Sangat.The SAD president said it was clear that repeated distortions had been introduced as part of a Congress conspiracy to ensure future generations do not take pride in their heritage. “This conspiracy has the blessings of the 10 Janpath Gandhi family and this was why it is not being taken back by the State government.
We on our part will not allow this conspiracy to succeed. We will not allow anyone to use derogatory words like Guru Arjan Dev ji was not martyred and merely “fined” and that Guru Gobind Singh ji had “quietly” left the battle field at Chamkaur Sahib instead of doing so after offering a challenge on the advise of the Panj Pyaras. We have been taught that Guru Gobind Singh ji was Sarbans Daani and Guru Tegh Bahadur ji was Hind di Chadar. The Congress government would have us believe otherwise. We can’t tolerate this at any cost and are ready for any sacrifice to protect the honour and dignity of our Gurus and our religion”, he added.Ordinary Sikhs from all walks of life congregated at the dharna site and condemned the Congress government for distorting Sikh history. It was unanimously decided that after the one day dharna by the SAD workers and people the SGPC would also organise a one day dharna at the same site starting tomorrow noon. Following this the agitation to ensure punishment of guilty and apology from the government would be further broad based in case the demands of the Sangat were not met. The Sangat also condemned the gory history of the Congress party and the Gandhi family which not only attacked Sri Harmandar Sahab with tanks and mortars in 1984 but also orchestrated mass genocide of Sikhs in Delhi and other parts of the country.Others present on the occasion included Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Bikram Singh Majithia, Bhai Manjit Singh, Veer Singh Lopoke, Pawan Tinu, Gurpartap Wadala, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, Satpal Mal, Vardev Mann and Gurpartap Singh Tikka.
