Magam (Budgam) , 03 Oct 2018

Locals and members of civil society on Tuesday staged a protest march in this central Kashmir Township against the dumping of solid waste in Nallah Ferozpora.Scores of activists assembled at the main town here and took out a peaceful march to protest the dumping of solid waste in Nallah Ferozpora, a primary source of water to different villages, witnesses told Kashmir Reader. The protest march held under the banner of "J&K RTI foundation" and ‘Save River Ferozpora Movement’ passed through higher secondary school before concluding peacefully at the main town. The protest was peaceful and meant for sending a message to those who are celebrating Swachh Bharat Mission as a success.“At a time when the swachh Bharat campaign is on its peak and stories of its success are being spread, the authorities here are turning blind eye to the deterioration of Nallah Ferozpora which has been turned into a dumping site” Chairman J&K RTI foundation Er Irfan Banka told.“We knocked the doors of the authorities many a times but they seem to be not interested in taking the cognizance of this grave issue. Our undergoing research on the Nallah has revealed that more than 80 percent of people who use this water have got their health affected and the government including District Administration,  Law, J&K Pollution Control Board and Swacchh Bharat Campaigners have taken no action,” he added.
