A day-long “Swachhta Mela” under “Swachhta hi Sewa campaign”, was organised today which witnessed enthusiastic community participation.The mela was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad.The day-long programme featured SBM theme song, play on SBM (G) by drama group, Painting Competition between the winners of zonal level competition, skit depicting the change in behaviour of people regarded the sanitation and use of dustbins by NSS students of PG degree College Rajouri, solo performances on the theme Swachhta hi Sewa and Tug of War competitions between the teams of different schools.Different departments had also set up stalls for creating awareness among people regarding various government-sponsored schemes.In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of such events for creating mass awareness and forging as sense of responsibility among the people.“Mere construction of toilets cannot fulfil the purpose of the Swachhta Mission but it is necessary to make the people conscious about keeping the environment neat and clean” he said and added that cleanliness is not the responsibility of only a few people but it is a collective social responsibility.Around 1500 people from all walks of life thronged the Mela which was also attended by senior civil and police officers.
