Banks to focus on loans to young entrepreneurs for encouraging self-employment

The review meeting of State level banker's committee (SLBC) was held here today to review the progress of banking sector for the quarter ended June, 2018 in the State.Presiding over the meeting, Secretary Finance Akshay Sood emphasised on improvement of credit deposit (CD) ratio in the State which was just 44 percent. He said that the State government was very much concerned about the low CD ratio and bankers should come forward to make improvement in this direction. He also emphasized on Aadhaar seeding in all Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts to encourage the digital payments through the Aadhaar enabled payment system.He said that through Aadhaar seeding banks could provide various financial benefits of State government schemes to the general public.Reviewing the progress under Annual Credit Plan 2018-19, Akshay Sood said that banks in the State had disbursed fresh loans to 2.26 lakhs new units amounting to Rs. 5727.71 crores during first quarter ended June, 2018.He said that banks have disbursed Rs. 1554.25 crores under Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana to 89713 new micro entrepreneurs. The MUDRA loan and Stand-up India schemes were important initiatives for comprehensive financial inclusion and credit inclusion in the State.

He said that State government had launched 'Mukhya Mantri Swavlamban Yojna' and 'Mukhya Mantri Ajivika Yojna' for young entrepreneurs of the State. He urged bankers to contribute with active services in the implementation of these schemes. He also emphasized on maximum coverage of farmers under the ambit of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.General Manager and Convenor UCO bank Vivek Kaul in his key note address said that the banks total business in the State had crossed Rs. 1.46 lakh crore as of June, 2018. The deposits and advances had reached to Rs. 1.07 lakh crores and Rs. 38097.21 crores respectively. He urged the banks to upload the data of crop insurance under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana on the portal.General Manager, Reserve Bank of India K.C. Anand urged the banks to pay thrust on financial inclusion campaign on ground level so that outreach of banking services can be extended to the rural areas.CGM, NABARD Ranbir Singh said that government of India had targeted to double the income of farmers by 2022 and it needs coordinated efforts by all stake holders. He emphasized for more credit expansion through investment credit as government has proposed to increase the volume of institutional credit for agriculture sector and raise this to 11 lakh crores for the year 2018-19.
