Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur honoured 20 teachers of the State with National and State level awards to mark the celebration of State level Teacher's Day function organized here today at the Centre of Excellence, government college Sanjauli.While congratulating the teachers, particularly the award winners on the occasion of the Teacher’s Day, the Chief Minister said that the teachers were the real architects of the nation. He said that teachers should also focus on value added education and the students must also be taught to respect their values, culture and traditions. He said that students must be taught to respect their parents, teachers and elders, besides showing their respect and love for the nation.Jai Ram Thakur said that among all, teacher and pupil relationship was the pious one.  The teachers were the builders of the Nation since the solid foundation was laid by them as they imbibe high moral values amongst the students. He said that a teacher should not create student in their own image but develop such students who were capable of creating their own image. He said that the State Government had launched several new schemes in the field of education to strengthen the education sector.He said that the State Government had earmarked Rs. 7044 crore for the education sector and now the stress was on imparting quality education to the students. He said that ‘Akhand Shikha Jyoti Mere School Se Nikle Moti’ had been launched for motivating the students to perform best in the schools.

 While remembering his own school days, the Chief Minister said that Headmaster of his High School Bagsiad in Mandi district Bihari Lal Sharma taught him vital lessons of punctuality, hard work and sincerity. He said that the conduct and behaviour of teachers must be inspiring and motivational for the students. He said that the State had made rapid strides in the field of education and the credit for this goes to the teachers of the State. Jai Ram Thakur expressed concern over increasing tendency among youth towards use of drugs and other intoxicants.  He said that youth needed to be saved from such bad habits.  He said that with a view to improve education, teachers, guardians and students had to play pro-active role. The academic atmosphere should be in consonance with the interests and capabilities of the students. He said that on his initiative, the Chief Ministers of all the neighbouring States held a meeting at Chandigarh recently to chalk out joint strategy for curbing this social vice. He said that the State Government would soon launch a massive campaign throughout the State against this social evil.The Chief Minister announced Rs 15 lakh for renovation and repair of the roof of the building of government degree college Sanjauli. He also announced that girl's college hostel would be constructed at the earliest in the college.He also announced Rs. 31,000 from his discretionary fund to the students who performed cultural programme on the occasion.The Chief Minister released the souvenir brought out to mark the celebration. He also released booklet ‘Nai Talim’ on the occasion.

Jai Ram Thakur honoured Principal Government Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Nerwa district Shimla, Kewal Ram Chauhan, Lecturer, GSSS Amboya, district Sirmour Narinder Singh Negi, Lecturer GSSS Bayad, district Hamirpur Nardev Singh, DPE GSSS Sundernagar, district Mandi Ramesh Chand, DPE GSSS Shong, district Kinnaur Karam Chand, Art Teacher GSSS Matahani, district Hamirpur Pawan Bala, Art Teacher GSSS Shamtha, district Shimla Kewal Ram Kanta, Shastri, GSSS Muthan, district Kangra Lal Chand, PET, GHS Dugha, district Hamirpur Joginder Singh Shandil, JBT GPS Sandhrah, district Sirmour Jai Prakash, CHT Government Kendra Primary School, Hamirpur Kusma Kumari  and CHT Sanjeev Jistu of Shimla with the State level awards on the occasion.The National level awards were given to Sanjay Deshta of GSSS Lalpani, Janmjay Singh Guleria of  Khanyara Khas, district Kangra and Meena Kumari of GSSS Mandi.Speaking on the occasion,  Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that Teacher’s Day was celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of great intellectual and multifaceted personality, late Dr. S.Radhakrishanan, who had great interest in teaching. He said that the State had been laying greater emphasis over the quality education wherein teachers had to play pivotal role.  He said that in the age of competition, students needed to be prepared to face any challenge in their lives. He said that Himachal Pradesh was the only state in the country with 100 per cent enrolment in 11th standard. He said that teachers must not shy away from taking new initiatives and innovations in teaching for betterment of the students.Secretary Education Dr. Arun Sharma narrated initiatives taken by the State in education sector to make Himachal Pradesh an 'Education Hub' of the country. He said that the teachers should prepare themselves for the new challenges of the new era of information technology. Director of Elementary Education Rohit Jamwal proposed vote of thanks.A cultural programme was presented by school and college students on the occasion. Director Education Dr. Amarjeet Sharma, Director Information and Public Relations Anupam Kashyap, SP Shimla Omapati Jamwal were present on the occasion among others.
