Two students from Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran have brought laurels to the institution by winning top spots in the state level competition of the Miss India Khadi contest. Gurpreet Kaur, B.Tech (IT), third year was crowned Miss Punjab (Khadi) while Vandana, B.Com, second year, won the Miss Haryana (Khadi) title. They will now be representing the states of Punjab and Haryana in the grand finale of Miss India Khadi competition scheduled to be held in New Delhi in December.Miss India Khadi Competition is an initiative backed by the Khadi board and Miss India Khadi Board. It seeks to promote the Khadi fabric on both national and international levels, by eliciting interest from fashion designers across the country eventually helping skilled Khadi spinners’ gain access to a better standard of living. Competing against participants from reputed universities and colleges from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh the winners were adjudged on parameters which included their confidence score, talent score as well as co-curricular activities undertaken.
All the contestants walked down the ramp in designer dresses fashioned out of the khadi fabric.The panel of judges for the event included Ankush Anami, CEO, Miss India Khadi, Sanjay Dixit, President, Rashtriya Kisan Manch, Bhavika Gandhi, Actress, Dietician Shreya and Harshit Gupta, International Institute of Photography and Cinematography Director.Commenting on the achievement, Gurpreet and Vandana said that they are proud to be a part of this initiative. They termed this competition to be a great platform which would help facilitate better connect of contemporary Indian youth with indigenously produced products. They also credited their win to CGC Landran and their faculty who encouraged them to give their best in whatever they do. Lauding the students’ achievement, Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran and Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President, CGC Landran wished them the very best.
