Chief Secretary B V R Subramanyam today arrived here on a two-day visit to take stock of the developmental works and ongoing programmes/other activities going on in the picturesque mountainous district.Chief Secretary is accompanied by Secretary Education & Tourism, Rigzian Sampheal.Immediately after arriving here, Chief Secretary held detailed interaction with Deputy Commissioner Leh, AvnyLavasa, who apprised him about the functioning of various departments and progress of ongoing developmental activities, schemes and projects as well as the steps/measures being taken to complete the same as per the given timeline.Chief Secretary also held detailed deliberations with regard to funding of various development projects in the district.Later in the afternoon, the Chief Secretary inspected the Secondary Waste Segregation Centre at Choglamsar and enquired about the project Tsang-Da launched under National Rurban Mission.Executive Councilor Agriculture TseringWangdus, ACD Leh TseringPaldan, Chief Agriculture Office Leh, TashiPsetan, BDO Leh and other staff of Rural Development Department Leh were present at the Centre.The project has been initiated by district administration supported by LAHDC Leh with the aim to make Ladakh zero waste region under the theme, “Let’s make Swachh Ladakh a reality”.

The project is being implemented by Rural Development Department LAHDC Leh with secondary Waste Segregation Centres functional in Leh, Nubra, Nimoo and Khaltsi blocks.The local administration briefed about these functioning of the Waste Segregation and Management Centres. They informed that around 38869 Kgs of waste have been collected, segregated, recycled and disposed at these Centres out of which 5452 Kgs have been sold after recycling.Chief Secretary exhorted the district administration to make improvement in the Waste Segregation Centres like floor tiling to keep the space clean and display flow charts showing the entire process of waste collection and segregation.He suggested modification in the paper-bricks made at the centre to use them for internal house partitions and make use of recycled paper for office purposes like letterheads.He asked DC to award the best worker at the centre every month with some cash incentive to recognize their efforts which in turn will help to motivate the workers in better deliverance.Chief Secretary also emphasized on taking feedback from the public and explore the possibilities of disposing electronic and medical wastes on scientific lines.
