Secretary Social Welfare Department (SWD), Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Wednesday instructed for all eligible beneficiaries to be covered under various ongoing welfare schemes of the government in order for the schemes to achieve their desired results.Dr Lone said this while chairing a meeting of Council for Rehabilitation of Social Welfare Department. He said benefits of all these schemes, including those meant for widows, handicapped, old-aged parents and orphans of families affected by militancy for their rehabilitation, education and vocational trainings, will be prioritized to minimize processing among other delays.Executive Director, State Rehabilitation Council, while briefing the Secretary informed that under various welfare schemes of the department a total of 8822 beneficiaries were provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 8.59 crore during 2017-18 fiscal.It was also informed that monthly pension to the tune of Rs 6.43 crores in total was disbursed among 7044 beneficiaries and that scholarships worth a total of Rs 1.57 crore were provided to a total of 1635 orphans and militancy-affected students. It was also said that 500 motorized tricycles are being distributed among the specially abled persons of the State.Special Secretary SWD, Joint Director Planning & Development, Additional Secretary SWD among other concerned officers attended the meeting.
