Policy for allotting tubewell connections for the power sector will be revised keeping in view the depleting underground water table of state. The zones declared as dark  zones (having very low underground water level) will be mainly taken into consideration before the Punjab government decides increase in number of tubewell connections, said the Minister for Power, New and Renewable Sources of Energy Mr Gurpreet Singh Kangar while talking to media persons here today.He said that the outgoing SAD-BJP government created their own policy of giving tubewell connections to farmers having less than 2.5 acres of land. “Just before the state went to polls, SAD-BJP government took demand notices for around 50000 tubewell connections in state and promised connections in other quotas without even thinking about the depleting underground water level, which is primary cause of worry for an agrarian state like Punjab,” he said.

Considering the pending 50000 applications of demand notices, the government has decided to release these connections over next two to three months to those having less than 2.5 acres of land. However, no connections under any quota will be released, the Power Minister clarified.Lauding the efforts of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in attaining new achievements in sector of power generation, Mr Kangar said that the Powercom has beat its own record b y supplying 2749 lacs units on 4 August 2018, while the demand was at an all time high on 12059 Mega Watts. He said that under the Power Exchange, 6 lacs units of power have been sold at Rs 6.78 per unit.Meanwhile, Mr Kangar today listened to the problems of people of Rampura and nearby areas and resolved them on the spot. Prominent among others present included SDM Rampura Mr Khushdil Singh, DSP Mr Gurpreet Singh, BDPO Bhagta Mr Dharampal Sharma, BDPO Phul Mr Abhinav XEN PSPCL Bhagta Mr Kapil Dev Arora, XEN PSPCL Rampura Mr LK Bansal and others were also present.
