Acting swiftly on the directives of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the Punjab Police on Sunday cracked down on the suspects involved in the trafficking of Simranjit Kaur of Tarn Taran to Dubai.Gurjit Kaur, the conduit who had allegedly allured Gurjit into the net of the travel agent, has been arrested. A hunt has been launched for the travel agent, identified as Ibrahim Palam Yusuf, a resident of Kerala currently suspected to be in Dubai, DGP Suresh Arora informed the Chief Minister on Sunday evening. A look-out notice is being issued for Yusuf, said the DGP.A case (FIR No 207) dated 29.07.2018 u/s 354 IPC, Section 13, Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling ACT 2012, has been registered at PS Sadar TTN against Yusuf and Gurjit, w/o Kulwinder Singh r/o Vill Pandori Gola, Taran Taran.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had on Saturday night tweeted to the Chief Minister urging him to take stringent action against the agent responsible for the traumatic experience that Simranjit had to undergo. Taking cognizance of the Minister’s request, Captain Amarinder Singh had directed the DGP to take immediate action in the matter. Following Sunday’s action, the Chief Minister tweeted to Sushma that “Reg the case of Simranjit Kaur, I had asked top @PunjabPolice officers to meet her on arrival in Amritsar @SushmaSwaraj ji. They have taken all  details from her and a case has been registered against Gurjeet Kaur, who has been arrested, & Ibrahim Palam Yusuf, currently in Dubai.”

IG Amritsar Zone SPS Parmar said Simranjit, d/o Major Singh r/o Pandori Gola, PS Sadar Tarn Taran, had been received at the Amritsar airport by Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, and other Civil and Police Officials, along with Pawan Kumar, Sr. Supdt. Passport office. Simranjit told the police that she was illiterate and used to visit her native village Pandori Gola, where Gurjit would visit her house.About a month ago, Gurjit came to her house and suggested to her mother to send her to Dubai, Simranjit said in her statement to the police. She subsequently arranged a meeting with the agent at Chaar Khamba Chowk Tarn-Taran. She was told by the agent that she would have to work as a child caretaker in Dubai, and also told her mother that all expenses would be adjusted from her pay in Dubai.A few days later, the mother-daughter duo met the agent in Amritsar and he introduced himself as Ibrahim Palam Yusuf of Kerala and gave his mobile no. (94975-15999). He soon sent her the visa and air ticket for a July 26 flight. Simranjit was met by the agent at Dubai Airport and was later taken to a Dubai-based Sheikh. According to Simranjit, the Sheikh did not provide her any work and also took her passport and mobile phone, which soon made her suspicious. She called her mother, who then contacted one Sarwan Singh Randhawa r/o Jhabal, in Tarn-Taran, who, in turn, got in touch with Roop Sidhu, who runs an NGO in Dubai. Simranjit was rescued by Sidhu on Saturday.Simranjit, in her statement, claimed she had also been molested by the agent.Initial investigations have revealed that the phone number 94975-15999 was registered in the name of Abdul Sathar, a resident of Kerala. Yusuf was working for two UAE-based recruitment agencies, identified as Al Mutamaiz and Al Waseet Labour Recruitment.According to the IG, Yusuf is also using the following  Dubai mobile numbers and email ids: • 00971527065999 • 00971555717786 [email protected], [email protected]
