Police on Tuesday foiled SSA teachers’ march towards Governor’s official residence at Raj Bhawan here.Hundreds of teachers assembled at Sher-i-Kashmir Park near Polo View here under the banner of JK Teachers Forum to press for their demands including de-linking SSA teachers’ salary from funds received from the government of India, implementation of 7th pay commission for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and head teachers in schools.As the protesting teachers began to march on residency road, police deployed at the spot swung into action and dispersed the protesting teachers by using colored water cannon and resorted to cane charge and used water cannons.Dozens of them were also bundled in police vehicles and lodged at Kothi Bagh police station.The teachers were protesting against the inordinate delay by the government in de-linking SSA teachers’ salary from funds received from the government of India. “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a scheme sponsored by the government of India. We are nearly 45,000 teachers in Jammu and Kashmir who are working under this scheme. If the government is talking about improving standards of education in the state, why are they doing injustice with us?”The protesters appealed Governor NN Vohra to intervene into the matter. (GNS)
