While urging the Governor Administration to settle the cases of those casual labourers on priority, who have donated their land for PHE water supply schemes over the years, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Monday said there should be a special and serious attention for them in regularization. In a statement issued to press here he said the SRO-520 mentions that any casual labor who has 120 CVs is eligible for regularization which means who have been working for 10-years.In 2013, government issued orders for engaging those who had donated land for water supply schemes as casual labourers. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department had acquired tracts of lands from hundreds of small-time fruit growers in various parts of the state for setting up water reservoirs, collection tanks, sumps, sluice value chambers and quarters much before 2008. They were also working as casual labourers without any wages. Why they are not being given the effect from the day they donated the land and they started working. It is the responsibility of the government to give them retrospective effect. They have not only donated their precious land, but are also performing their duties regularly. The wages of these casual labourers is also pending for the past 22-months. It is these people who run the filtration plants and denying them their dues is injustice. Government not only must pay them their pending wages immediately, but their genuine demand of regularization must be speeded up. (PTK)
