DC And CP Gets Seven Drug Addicts Admitted To Government Drug De-Addiction Centers Under New Reformatory Policy Of The State Government

Move Aimed At Enabling The Drug Addicts To Join The Mainstream Thereby Contributing In Socio-Economic Development Of State

In a move  to extend helping hand to the drug addicts to get them out of drug addiction trap, the civil and police officials on Friday got seven such youths admitted to government drug de-addiction center under the policy of the state government to reform the addicts thereby enabling them to join the mainstream.The youths who hailed from Pholriwal, Jandiala and Qadian villages of the district were admitted to the center in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Police Commissioner Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha, who personally motivated the youth to undergo proper treatment in the centre. During the interaction both the officers persuaded the youth to take proper treatment so that they could also lead a normal life like others and contribute immensely in socio-economic growth of the state.DC Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma and Commissioner of Police Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha said that rehabilitation is a most important factor to bring the drug addicted youth into the mainstream. They told that the state government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is committed to wiping out the drug menace from Punjab and would offer every type of assistance to the drug addicts and their families. 

They maintained that it is encouraging that drug addicts are willing to get rid of this curse by getting the treatment and appealed the families to spread the awareness among others too.Both the officers also asked the Civil Surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Sekhon and Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Dr. KS Bawa to make all requisite arrangements in the centre including free treatment, starting Yoga classes, special prayers etc for the addicts coming for treatment and reformation. They said that the drive to inspire the addicts to undergo necessary treatment has been initiated from Sadar police station today and would be continued here.Earlier, both the officers also held a meeting with youths' families and doctors of the centre. They apprised the families them about the new policy of the government to offer free treatment to drug addicts belonging to the economically weaker sections.Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Dalbir Singh, Dr. Sanjiv Lochan, Dr. Aman Sood and others.
