Women’s wing of Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement Tuesday staged a protest demanding immediate release of political prisoners.Scores of women protesters carrying placards and banners reading ‘release political prisoners languishing in jails’, ‘shifting of political prisoners outside state political vendetta’ ‘release prisoners before Eid’, and ‘putting thousands into prison is no democracy’.
They demanded release of all political prisoners before Eid. While taking to CNS, Ruqia Baji who was leading the protest said that India being a signatory to the Geneva Convention on political prisoners has an obligation to respect the rights of prisoners but as with other human rights, New Delhi has trampled this right too and is crushing these inmates with impunity.She demanded implementation of international jail manual rights for political prisoners.
