29th Road Safety Week concludes at G’bal, Kulgam, B’pora

Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Ganderbal today organized valedictory function of 29th Road Safety Week with the theme “Sadak Suraksha - Jeevan Raksha” at Meeting Hall, Mini Secretariat DC Office complex Ganderbal.The concluding function was chaired by District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Dr. Piyush Singla.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC underlined the importance of raising awareness among masses towards traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents and to bring improvement in the system of traffic. He stressed to ensure proper safety through adherence to traffic rules, education, proper design of roads and enforcement.Various speakers on the occasion briefed the audience about the traffic rules one needs to follow while driving and standard operating procedures that require being followed while driving or moving on the roads, besides stressing upon the norms people need to follow while driving.During the week-long programme Awareness Camps, Seminars, Medical Checkup Camps, Maxi Cab and Bike Rallies were organized in the District.Later, DDC also awarded mementoes to all the participants, who excelled in different activities organized during the Road Safety Week.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Ganderbal Manzoor Ahmad, Executive Engineer R&B, Deputy Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, other concerned officers and representatives of various Transport Unions of the district were also present during the programme. Similarly, a function was also held at Kulgam today.ACR Kulgam Shahnawaz Ahmad Shah was Chief Guest on the occasion. ARTO Kulgam Jamsheed Choudhary, Dy SP, District Officers, Transporters, Media persons and other members of MVD, and other employees of other departments were present on the occasion.While speaking on the occasion, ACR said that such programmes would go a long way in generating awareness among the people and would be helpful in minimizing the road accidents and encourage safe driving.ARTO said that the Road Safety Week remained abuzz with different activities which include bike rally, ophthalmic checkups of drivers and other awareness programmes in the district to create awareness.ACR Kulgam later distributed memento and certificate to winners and participants who propagate awareness.Meanwhile, the concluding function at Bandipora was chaired by District  Development Commissioner (DDC) Khursheed Ahmad Sanai.

The function was organised by Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), was attended by SSP Bandipora Sheik Zulfiqar Azad, District Social Welfare Officer Altaf Hussain, Dy CEO G.M Lone, Inspector MVD Mohammed Younis, Media Persons, students besides drivers and other people.Speaking on the occasion the DDC enjoined upon the drivers to follow traffic rules in letter and spirit. He stressed for use of seat belt and helmet during driving to minimise road accidents. He said that this message should reach to every nook and corner of the district.It was informed that walkathon rally, bike rider rally, maxi cabs rally besides awareness camps, seminars, debates, trauma counselling camp, medical checkup and painting competitions were organised during the week-long programme in the district.Later, certificates were distributed among the participants who took part in different events and performed well to make the week-long programme a success.On the occasion, Momentoes were also presented to DDC, SSP and media person Suhail Rather.
