Northern Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT), set up by Punjab government is all set to hold 'Anukama 2018', a graduating show for the Fashion Design (FD) and Fashion Design (Knits) departments of NIIFT, Ludhiana in the main Auditorium, Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan on May 22. The show will start at 6 pm.In a press conference, GM District Industries Centre and NIIFT, Ludhiana in-charge Mahesh Khanna along with Dr. Simrita Singh, Coordinator, Anukama 2018 and Rajwinder Kaur, HOD, Fashion Design Department gave details of the show. The young fashion designers and fashion week models both female and male were also present.They disclosed that the Fashion Show evening will feature 48 exquisite collections on the ramp created by the students of Fashion Design and Fashion Design (Knits) Departments of NIIFT.This final presentation is a combination of the learning that the students' imbibe during their education at the institute. Through the media of colors, materials, finishes, and techniques, the students express individual statements as design collections. Three years of knowledge, sweat, and assessment culminate at the annual ramp presentation Anukama’18.Industries and Commerce, Minister, Sunder Sham Arora will be the Chief Guest of the show and will give away the awards.  Rakesh Kumar Verma, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce and Chairman NIIFT will be the special guest. DPS Kharbanda, Director of Industries and Commerce, Punjab and Director General, NIIFT will also be present in the show.Over 30 male and female models would walk the ramp adding the glam quotient to the students’ creations. Students were guided by their Mentors including Rajwinder Kaur, Harpreet Singh, Ramanpreet Kaur and Navneet Suman. 

The students' collections were juried by industry experts and top ranking designers and will be showcased by professional models, in a high-caliber elegant presentation that has become a staple in the college's lineup of annual events."The collections comprise of eclectic ensembles painstakingly created by the students of FD and FDK over a period of six months under the mentorship of the faculty.The collections vary from ethnic to modern and there are also highly creative collections based on fantasized concepts and themes. Each student has individually worked on a theme and would present five ensembles each,” Inderjit Singh, Registrar, NIIFT.A cross-section of work done by the young designers was also showcased at the press meet.The highlight of Anukama’ 18 is a collection, designed by Karanbir Singh, a student of Fashion Design Knits department. The collection named 'Amazonica', which is inspired by flora and fauna of tropical forests.The ensembles have been created by using different types of knitting techniques, to represent rich biodiversity of flora and fauna of Amazon Jungle.The handmade a collection of Subrat Kumar Tripathy is made by using hand-crocheting techniques, to give a weave look and highlighted the need for recycling of Textile Industrial waste, to conserve the environment.Akanksha has created her collection with a theme name ‘Matritav’. She is inspired by the pregnancy phase of women that how a woman is blessed with the superpower of being a mother and the typical stages of pregnancy and its pleasure as well as pain continuously. The designer has developed the cell structure of a baby in the womb.

Alisha has created her collection ”kalpasutra” inspired from Jain manuscripts (the art) which got extinct nowadays. The designer has meticulously created through Pahari miniature styles, with hand paintings.Laxmi Kumari Yadav, another graduating student, had worked on a collection named 'dream catcher’, which is created with silk threads with beads and feathers to give the shape to her own dreams.Manpreet has devised the collection on “Crazy Shtick”, which depicts the strong bonding between Mom and Daughters through comics by doing handwork, using bold colours, comic symbols and Linen Cottons. Khushbu is inspired from Chhau mask of Jharkhand state and created the collection, ‘Lehankar’, by using wooden materials, bamboo sticks, beads, straws etc.Deepshikha Sharma inspired from Punjabi Prandas and has created her hand-made collection by using bright colours of yarns and fringes. Anushriya inspired from the Bangladesh based city Panam Nagar, which got ruined due to lack of care and tries to give a message to conserve historical architecture. The designer did ornamental art, by using hand paints.  The show will be directed by Pravesh Thakur of Strickers Pvt Ltd.The prominent models participating in ANUKAMA ‘2018 are as follows including Khushboo Rawat,  Miss India Khadi 2017 – a student of NIIFT is walking the ramp in Anukama 2018 along with other NIIFT models.National repute Fashion Week and Runway Models are : Vidya, Megha, Vinni, Kanan, Ashley, Himani, Neha Sahni, Isha, Pallak, Rachita, Aditi, Anchal, Sakshi, Pallavi, Preeti Chodhary, Divya, Kanchan -Miss Dehradun top 12 finalists, Miss Adventurous top 6 Finalist, Miss Uttrakhand Finalist, Hema Chetri- Indian princess International 2013 representing Bhutan. Male models are Raghav, Anuj, Jagsher, Alam and Sid- Fashion Week and runway models.
