"SAS Nagar Hariyali Mission” is all set to plant One crore saplings within next 3 years in the District. The special project 'Har Ghar Hariyali' announced by Captain Amrinder Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Punjab for “Tandrust Punjab” would also be part of the Mission. This was disclosed by the Deputy Commissioner after the meeting with the officials of various departments regarding plantation campaign. She said that under this mission plantation would be carried out in premises of schools and colleges, common land of 464 villages, hospitals, all Government Institutions, 10000 acre P.L.P.A area, open forest area and on the sides of 1200 kilometer long link roads and all such vacant areas which could support plantation in municipal areas also.She instructed the officials to identify the vacant areas related to their respective departments for the plantation drive and after the identification they must send the photos of those places to D.C. office within a week. The D.C. said that participation of Private and Government Institutions, Youth Clubs, Social Welfare Organizations and N.G.O's would also be much needed and welcome to make this plantation drive a people’s movement. 

Moreover, special measures would be adopted for motivating people to plant 2 to 5 saplings each. She made it clear that only the native varieties of plants would be planted and names of the sponsors would be mentioned on the respective tree guards. She instructed the officials of Forest Department to ensure installation of simple, low priced and good quality tree guards for protection of the plants.The Deputy Commissioner disclosed that instructions had been issued for undertaking maximum plantation under MGNREGA and Forest Department would publish a special brochure regarding this campaign. A.D.C. Development would be the Coordinator for implementation of this Campaign and District Forest Officer would provide technical guidance, extension support and necessary saplings to all the stakeholders. The Sarpanches of the concerned villages in coordination with Forest Department would ensure the plantation on the link roads and panchayat land under MGNREGA after the berms are set right.
