Lawyers, traders take rallies against Shopian killings

Kashmir High Court Bar Association and Traders federation on Monday took out separate rallies denouncing unabated civilian killings and urged the world community to come to the rescue of people of Kashmir against "ongoing onslaught by India".Members of Kashmir High Court Bar Association took out a rally from the court complex and marched outside its gate which is adjacent to the civil secretariat.Shouting slogans, the lawyers asking the international community to break its silence and stop the genocide of Kashmiris by India.The protesting lawyers, carrying banners which read  "Respect Human Right of People of Kashmir, Dark Night of Oppression Must End, Right of Self Determination is a Basic Right-UN Is Bound To Enforce It". The protesting lawyers were, however prevented from marching towards the civil secretariat, the seat of government which opened today for six months as part of century-old practice started by Dogra's known as Darbar Move. President of the association Advocate Mian Qayoom said that the lawyers are protesting against civilian killings in Srinagar and south Kashmir.

He said that besides brutally killing innocent people, more than 60 others have been injured critically either with bullet or pellets."This genocide of Kashmiris and International community must break its silence and come to the rescue of people and pressurize the New Delhi to stop the genocide," he said.Meanwhile, the traders’ body, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), held a protest demonstration at commercial hub Lal Chowk in Srinagar against the Shopian killings in Kashmir.Scores of traders assembled in Lal Chowk today morning and held a demonstration against the killings of five civilians in Shopian yesterday.Raising anti-government slogans and held banners which read “Down with state terrorism”, “Stop genocide of Kashmiris” and “Stop innocent killings in the name of operation all-out”.The protesting traders demanded the government to take cognizance of the situation prevalent here and stop killings forthwith.Five civilian and as many militants were killed in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Sunday.
