Muslims across Kashmir valley today remained engaged in prayers on Shab-e-Barat, the night of forgiveness, in mosques, shrines and other religious places.On the occasion, houses and religious places, especially mosques, were decorated. Muslims offered night-long special prayers in Masjids and shrines where religious scholars delivered sermons highlighting the teachings of Islam and various aspects of the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).In Kashmir, nightlong prayers were offered at Hazratbal shrine, Chrar-e-Sharif and other major shrines.A large number of people also visited grand mosque Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz Umar Farooq delivered sermon on the importance of Shab-e-Barat.Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid have greeted people on the occasion and expressed hope that the auspicious occasion will be harbinger of peace and prosperity for the state.Similar congregations were organised in masjids and other holy places in Ladakh region.
