Parents allege Woodland School Srinagar charges exorbitant fees, seeks Govt. action

Scores of parents allege Woodland school Srinagar for minting money from them in the name of fees.A group of parents told Press Trust of Kashmir that school is only concerned about minting money. Adding that they don’t care where from this money came but they want money and nothing else.They alleged that School authority increased fee twice in a single year in which they increase tuition fee 8% and bus fee 20% two times in a single.They added that the school is lacking all the basic facilities it claims besides violating rule and regulation set by the government.The parents further said that despite their several complaints to the authorities they never paid any heed. “When will the authorities wake up?”, they ask.Parents have alleged that school is charging exorbitant fees. “Exorbitant fee structure in this school is taking heavy toll on the middle class families. Parents have become money-minting machines for such schools”, they said.

They further alleged that the school has got very inexperienced faculty adding that teachers also resort to corporal punishment to the students using rods and cannas.They said that the school also charges rupees 300 for a magazine.They also alleged that whenever the parents try to enquire into the matter they are being demoralized and disrespected.Parents warn that if the authorities fail to mend the system of the school they will come on roads along with their children.When contact Woodlands House School, in-charge Shaista told Press Trust of Kashmir that in last 4 years they have not increased any fee. She said, “When we got the formal order from government last year to increase fee upto 8% then we increased 8% of fee”.When asked about magazine, she said they can’t force any one to buy magazine adding that it depends upon parents either they want to buy it or not. She said, “If parents are not interested, they should not purchase magazine” She said that their school always follows rule and regulation of government. “These all reports are baseless”. (PTK)
