SEMOK organizes declamation contest on Ambedkar Jayanti

In connection with Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations, Students Educational Movement of Kargil (SEMOK) today organized a declamation contest on the theme ‘Reservation: A blessing or a curse’ here.Students from Government Degree College Kargil and several Higher Secondary Schools participated in the competition. Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Tsering Gyalpo was the chief guest on the occasion, while as Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarter Kargil Ishteyaq Kacho was the guest of honour.Speaking on the occasion, Tsering Gyalpo said that Ambedkar was a great personality who showed the people the true path to humanity. He also reminded about the struggle faced by Ambedkar against the social evils and backwardness, adding the late leader would always be remembered for upholding the secular values in the country.

On the occasion, Ishteyaq Kacho exhorted upon the youngsters to work towards uplifting the downtrodden and weaker sections of the society. He said befitting tribute to Ambedkar would be to help the people from socially and economically weaker sections by empowering them with knowledge and skills.Meanwhile, other speakers also recalled the efforts of Ambedkar for the cause of the underprivileged and his role in drafting the Constitution of India.Shahnawaz Ali from Suru Valley Public School secured the 1st position, Choskit Angmo from Government Higher Secondary School Shargole 2nd, while as Fahmida Fatima from Government Degree College Kargil secured the 3rd prize.Assistant Professor English Tahira Banoo and Mustafa Kamal Teacher adjudicated the contest.A number of officers from the District Administration, intellectuals, academicians, lecturers, teachers, volunteers of SEMOK and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
