Clashes erupt in Pulwama during funeral procession of slain militant

Clashes erupted between youth and security forces in main town Pulwama during the funeral procession of a local militant killed in a gunfight with forces yesterday.Scores of people today gathered at the residence of the slain militant to offer the funeral prayers, witnesses said, while adding that as the funeral procession reached main town Pulwama, youth resorted to stone pelting on the forces deployed there, triggering clashes.The forces then retaliated to tear smoke-shelling to disperse the protesting youth, local witnesses said. Meanwhile eight persons were injured during clashes between government forces and protesters in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.Reports said that soon after slain Hizb militant Mussavir Wani was laid to rest at his ancestral village graveyard on Saturday, the youth took to streets and clashed with the forces deployed in the area.Reports said that eight protesters injured in the clashes were shifted to a local hospital for treatment where from two injured was referred to a hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.A local militant Mussavir Ahamad Wani R/o Delipora Pulwama was yesterday killed in an encounter at Kangan area of Pulwama in South Kashmir.  (PTK)
