A militant was killed in an encounter in Kangan area of Pulwama in south Kashmir on Friday.A police official said that two AK-47 assault rifles were recovered from the slain militant.A local said that atmosphere reverberated with gun shots after government forces cordoned off Kangan area.There was an exchange of fire in which a militant was killed. Two assault rifles were recovered from the spot,” said a police official.The identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained, police said.Clashes also erupted in the area soon after the news broke that militants were trapped in the encounter. A hand out issued by police said that: “on a patrol of Security Forces some firing took place at Kangan, Pulwama in which acting swiftly SFs killed one militant and recovered one AK 47s and one SLR gun and other incriminating materials.“Identity and outfit of the killed militant is yet to be ascertained. The Operation was concluded. No collateral damage has taken place in this episode.”“A case in this regard has been registered, and investigations taken up.” (CNS)
