Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and the Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur Sunil Jakhar once again proved his ability to bring all on a single platform for the common cause of his state, Punjab, when MPs including Indian Nation Congress (INC) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today protested jointly out side the parliament house to raise the demand to waive off the CGST on Langar.INC’s MPs from Punjab Mr. Santokh Chaudhary, Mr. Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Mr. Ravneet Singh Bittu and INC’s MP from Bihar Ranjita Ranjan took part in this protest, whereas Sunil Jakhar has stepped up from Party line to call MPs of SAD to join this and SAD leaders including S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and S. Balwinder Singh Bhunder also came forward to demand the CGST waiver on Langar of Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Durgiana Mandir at Amritsar.

On this occasion while interacting with the media persons, Mr. Sunil Jakhar said that the Congress government of Punjab led by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, had already waive off the state share of GST on the langar earlier. He said that on the same pattern Union Government should also come forward to waive of CGST on Langar.Mr. Jakhar said that langar is served free of cost to everyone without any discrimination to any cast or creed and it is not a business activity to impose tax on it. He said that this is the work of welfare and has been a part of Indian tradition for centuries. Therefore levy tax on langar and prasad can not be justified in any way. Mr. Jakhar said that the central government led by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi should step up for CGST waiver from Langar and Prasad without delay.
