Reiterating his government’s stand against any kind of media censorship, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday assured the House of a thorough investigation into reports of alleged black-out of Zee TV Punjabi channel by Fastway. The Chief Minister’s assurance came after MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa raised the issue of the reported black-out, which he termed a blatant attack on the autonomy of Press. He demanded strict action against such operators who were trying to gag the media to pursue their narrow vested interests at the behest of their political masters.Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kanwar Sandhu backed Randhawa’s demand for stern action against the culprits, saying none better than him could understand the agony of running a channel with the highhandedness of such operators.Asserting that his government would not tolerate any such media censorship as it was a strong votary of the freedom of the press, Captain Amarinder Singh said it was unfortunate that these operators were indulging in such activities to stifle the voice of media, which was unacceptable.Promising a level-playing field to all stakeholders in the media industry, the Chief Minister he would get the matter probed and his government was committed to upholding the freedom of the press at all costs. His government was totally against any kind of cartelization, said the Chief Minister, adding that monopolisation of media would not be tolerated at any cost.
