Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday announced in the Vidhan Sabha that his government would provide Smart Phones to the youth between the age of 18 to 35 years from families with annual income up to Rs.6.00 lac in a phased manner provided that they have passed 10th standard.Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, the Chief Minister stressed his government’s focus on youth empowerment, pointing to the successful roll-out of the ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar’ scheme by his government in its first year itself. About 1.3 million youth in the State had contacted the government for jobs or gainful employment during the elections 2017 and the government had started working on a Mission "Ghar Ghar Rozgar te Karobaar", said the Chief Minister, adding that a total of 1,66,291 jobs had so far been created in various categories, including 31,084 from the Mega Rozgar Melas and 25718 government jobs, besides 36022 from self-employment opportunities. The government had already advertised another 16130 jobs, said the chief minister, adding that the process of recruitment against these would be completed shortly.The government had now decided to establish a permanent Commission for Employment Generation in the State, the Chief Minister announced, reaffirming the commitment to also provide unemployment allowance by way of incentive. His government was working on a Punjab Youth Skill Development Programme (Punjab Naujawan Hunnar Vikas Yojna), details of which have been given by the Finance Minister, he added.
