Secretary, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Talat Parvez Rohella today stressed on the need to focus on formulation of comprehensive and effective mechanism for disaster management in the state.Rohella said this while interacting with the officers after assuming charge of his office here.“The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been a worst sufferer of natural disasters in the last decade with serious damage to life and property,” the Secretary said, adding that this further increases the importance of effective disaster management in the state.Stressing on the capacity building of the stakeholders, the Secretary asked the field functionaries to reach out to the people and create awareness about disaster management at the grassroots level, besides adopting a pragmatic approach while discharging their duties.The Secretary, who is also holding the charge of Administrative Secretary, Department of Floriculture, Parks and Gardens, emphasized upon the officers to work on the concept of theme gardens across the state and take effective measures to tap the state’s vast potential in floriculture sector.He further said that priority would be given to engaging more and more people and providing them income generation avenues through varied fields such as bouquets making, decorations and dried flowers, in cut flower and commercial flowers. With the growth of floriculture, we can further look ahead of developing state’s perfume industry along with expanding dried flower packaging industry that will also boost state's economy, he added.He said that planning would be done after taking every aspect into consideration that would not only have a positive impact in the present scenario but also have its future implications.
