Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri held fourth Annual Athletic Meet while giving equal importance to sports, academics and other co-curricular activities, Amrit Kaur Gill, IAS, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Special Secretary cum Director Sports & Youth Services was the Chief Guest. The day started with hoisting the college flag followed by singing of National Anthem. An impressive march past was carried out by all the athletes and NCC cadets of the college who gave salute to the Chief Guest. During the meet, keen competition in various events including 1500 M race, 100 M race, Discus Throw, Long Jump, 200 M race, High Jump, 800 M race, 400 m race, Shot Put, Javeline Throw, 400 M Hurdels, 4x100 m Relay race, Chatti Race, Spoon race & Tug of War. More than 900 boys & girls of the college took part in these events.Based on winning highest number of gold, silver & bronze medals Harshdeep Singh &Shikha Sharma were declared as the best athletes.
Chief Guest Amrit Kaur Gill distributed prizes to the winning athletes of all the events. Apart from these winners, students who had won various Inter College Sports Competitions organized by IKG PTU during 2017–18 were also given cash prizes & track suits. These included the teams of Badminton (Women), and Volleyball (Women) both winning PTU trophies & gold medals, Weighlifting, Powerlifting & Best Physique who won 3 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze medals, Swimming team winning 1 silver & 6 bronze medals and Kabaddi team capturing third position in PTU.Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Amrit Kaur Gill said that apart from academics, many other things like sports, cultural & extra Curricular activities shape our personality. She advised the students to adopt sports as their life style & assured them that with this they will be able to overcome all the challenges of life in a positive manner. Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGCsaid that sports keep a person healthy & fit. .Dr. G.D.Bansal, Director General appealed to the students to participate not only in today’s athletic meet but also in their entire life to live with the spirit of a sportsperson.
