This International Women Day is special for the state of Punjab as it has captivated the national attention for being the state which has made tremendous progress in  improving the Sex Ratio at Birth. District Tarn Taran has been selected for facilitation by the GOI on the 3rd anniversary of the BBBP scheme for remarkable outreach  activities and new initiatives under BBBP scheme. In addition to this, district Tarn Taran  has recorded the laudable improvement in the Sex ratio at Birth in the district. It  was disclosed by Mrs. Razia Sultana, Social Security and Women & Child Development Minister Punjab.Mrs. Razia Sultan in a press communiqué released here today  said that it is not a mere coincidence that wrestler Navjot Kaur, who has recently bagged Gold Medal in Asian Wrestling Championship hails from District Tarn Taran. It is  the manifestation of the empowerment of womanhood in this district. She said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme was launched on January 22, 2015 at  Panipat, Haryana in 100 districts across the country having adverse Child Sex Ratio (CSR). She said that of the 100 districts selected, 11 districts of Punjab were  covered in the first phase namely Amritsar, Barnala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Frerozpur, Gurdaspur, Mansa, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Patiala, Sangrur, S.A.S. Nagar and Tarn Taran.

She added that 9 more districts of Punjab have also been covered in the recent past namely Faridkot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Moga, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala,  Jalandhar and SBS Nagar thereby taking the total number of districts covered under BBBP scheme in the State of Punjab to 20.The Social Security Minister further  added that under this BBBP Scheme, The Department of Social Security and Women & Child Development had launched crusade to improve Sex Ratio at Birth in close  coordination with the Department of Health and Education Department, Punjab. She said that during this campaign people are being sensitized at grassroot level in every  village through group discussion, one to one counseling, Sensitization and orientation of stakeholders and community members with the help of local sports champion  and opinion leaders.She said that instructions have also been passed to other districts to emulate the good practices that had been adopted by the district Tarn Taran so  as to achieve the better results in improving Sex Ratio at Birth and making Punjab an example in the country as a state with ‘Vibrant Women Power’.
