MLA Kathua Rajiv Jasrotia launched the pre-foundation ceremony of Government Medical College building, to be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 102 crore by PWD (R&B), here at Kathua today.The medical college building will be completed in two phases within stipulated time of two years for which Rs 56 crore has been sanctioned for Medical College block building whereas Rs 46 crore has been earmarked for hostel block.Speaking on the occasion, MLA said that the much-awaited construction work of Government Medical College building has been finally started which will not only benefit Kathua district but also the peripheral districts once completed. He said with the coming up of GMC Kathua, the dependency on GMC Jammu will considerably come down. He said the aim is to strengthen the health infrastructure so that people can have easy access to good health services at their nearest place.
He said with the completion of ongoing major development projects like Medical College, Engineering College, Kendriya Vidhyalaya of the Kathua district will have distinct identity of being an educational hub. He added that other major projects like Keeriyan Gandyal Bridge, Biotechnology Park and extensive road connectivity works will ease the lives of the general masses.MLA added that extensive road network has been initiated in the last three years and another 100 crore worth projects will be undertaken to address the drinking water scenario especially in kandi areas.XEN PWD Ram Paul, AEE, prominent citizens and a large number of locals were present on the occasion.
