Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority (J&KWRRA) under the Chairmanship of its Chairperson, Pramood Jain, conducted an extensive tour of Samba and Kathua districts to take review of Check Dam Projects undertaken by the I&FC Department Jammu.Other members of the Authority including Ravi Magotra and Ahmed Muzaffer Lanker besides others accompanied the Chairperson.The tour was conducted to inspect the check dam sites in the back drop of recent press reports regarding inordinate delay in execution of works here.The Authority visited Taloor Check Dam at village Dholote on Basantar River in Tehsil Samba, Check Dam at village Gurah Mundian on Yakh nallah in Tehsil Hiranagar and Check Dam at Pranjali on River Tarnah in Tehsil Hiranagar and interacted with the local inhabitants of these areas.The Chairperson issued on the spot instructions to speed up the remaining works for completion of the schemes in a time bound manner.
The Authority also observed extensive damage to the aprons at Pranjali Check Dam and asked the executing agencies to restore the damages well within the ongoing financial year so that the structure is saved from any further damage.Regarding completion of Toloor Scheme, it was informed that there was still requirement of Pump House and laying of rising main to irrigate the intended command area of the scheme. The Authority asked Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic Circle, Kathua to seek and obtain due funding from District Plan to complete the scheme now in the shortest possible time so that 1000 ha command area envisaged to e irrigated under the Scheme is not starved any further.The Superintending Engineer’s of Hydraulic Circles, Jammu and Kathua and Executive Engineers of Flood Control Division Samba and Kathua from the Irrigation & Flood Control Department accompanied the Authority during the visit.
