The department of Floriculture today rebutted the allegations of harassment leveled by a section of media on Friday. In a statement issued today, the department termed the allegation leveled against it as false and baseless. While issuing clarification, Director Floriculture Jammu BabilaRakwal said the Ladies Club building constructed by PWD in 1997 at Zanana Park was handed over to Floriculture Department on 03 November last year for its face-lifting which was an outcome of decision taken during the Swachh Bharat Mission drive held in the said park in the month of September 2017 by the Minister of State for Floriculture, Parks & Gardens. She said the main purpose of taking over the building was to facelift the Ladies Club and make it suitable for the ladies to use it for various activities. “Therefore, the apprehension of the members of the Ladies Club that the department would be using the ladies club for setting up its own offices/activities is totally unfounded,” she said. The Director further said that the Zanana Park is a beautiful park and maintained well by the Department of Floriculture, however the building of ladies’ club in the park has given a shabby look to the whole park because of its total neglect for the past 20 years. She said the Department of Floriculture has taken the initiative of restoration of the building solely for the women folk particularly of Jammu City, as the condition of the whole building is very bad and needs lot of funds to restore its pristine glory.
