Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary today informed the Legislative Assembly that the Government has formulated seven DPRs amounting to Rs 19.34 crore for developing new Water Supply Schemes (WSS) in the Tral Constituency to improve the overall drinking water scenario. He said the new WSSs have been proposed at Noorpora, Badsura, Pinglish, Badil Sahab Arigam, Amirabad, Chukpora Khan Basti Mandoora and Nun Nagh Rathsuna.Replying to a question by MLA Tral Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, the Minister informed that presently there is a network of 60 WSSs in Tral Constituency to cater to the drinking water needs of inhabitants, out of which 26 are functional, 17 are partially functional, 16 are on-going and one scheme is non-functional due to failure of tube-well.Responding to another part of the question, the Minister further said that based on the surveys and investigations, the power potential assessment of some high altitude lakes has been done and DPRs are also formulated. It has been envisaged particularly to tap the storage potential of these high altitude lakes, once the water from these sources reaches the main rivers; the storage of water cannot be done in view of Indus Water Treaty provisions. The JKSPDC is preparing reports on this afresh as the old record stands damaged due to 2014 floods, said the Minister.
