The Punjab players have performed exceedingly well in the concluded at New Delhi 'KHELO INDIA SCHOOL GAMES' which were held for the first time. The players from Punjab bagged a total of 35 medals including 10 Gold, 5 Silver & 20 Bronze medals and secured overall 7th rank. The players from 29 States and 6 UTs participated in these games.The Education Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary has congratulated the winning players as well as their coaches and the managers. The minister said that the State Government is giving priority to the sports sector and has strengthened the sports infrastructure at primary level which would yield further positive results in the near future. The minister also gave best wishes for the future to the players who couldn't win any medal.Giving detailed information about the 'KHELO INDIA SCHOOL GAMES' the State Organiser of the sports wing of Education Department and the head of the Punjab Contingent for these games Mr. Rupinder Ravi said that Punjab won team Gold in Basketball (Men's) event and the other 9 Gold medals were won in individual categories. Out these, athlete Chanveer Kaur won Gold in 200 Meters, Komal and Ekta won Gold in Boxing, Harmanpreet Singh, Manpreet, Mehakpreet and Jasvir Singh won Gold in Judo, Vinayak Verma won Gold in Archery and Arshpreet Kaur won Gold in Wrestling. In the team sports, Punjab Men's hockey team won Silver and Girls team won Bronze with Men's football team winning Silver medal. The matter of pride was the Gold medal that the Punjab emerged overall champion in Judo while Ekta Saroj from Punjab was adjudged the 'Best Boxer'.
